Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment, 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team engaged in squad-level movements and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) training through the Asymmetric Threat Training Center on May 13, 2023. Their training consisted of both classroom instruction and practical field exercises, including mounted operations and detection of simulated IEDs placed in a controlled environment.
“Learning how to identify simple things and give yourself some more time to react…saves lives,” states, Pfc. Jayden Serra, Missouri Army National Guardsman.
The Asymmetric Threat Training Center, located at Fort Chaffee, Ar, provides training, equipment, and advice to military units preparing to deploy to areas with asymmetric threats. Their training programs are designed to enhance the capabilities of soldiers and enable them to engage with the challenges of asymmetric warfare effectively. Asymmetric threats are characterized by unconventional tactics, strategies, and weapons not commonly used by traditional military forces, such as IEDs.
IED training is essential to modern military operations, particularly in areas with a high risk of IED attacks. These explosive weapons are typically made from locally available materials. The focus of IED training in the military is to teach Soldiers how to detect, disable, and dispose of IEDs in the field to protect themselves and civilians from harm.
More than 40 Missouri National Guardsmen are deploying with 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry Regiment for Operation Spartan Shield. They will continue to conduct intensive pre-deployment training to ensure mission readiness.
