CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Approximately 250 Marines and Sailors from Combat Logistics Battalion 22, Combat Logistics Regiment 27, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, returned March 8 from a recent deployment to Haiti with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Their mission during the approximate two-month time period was to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to help alleviate the suffering of the people of Haiti after the horrific earthquake that struck Jan. 12.
The battalion had just returned from a deployment to the U.S. Central Command Theater in the Middle East with the 22nd MEU, one month before the earthquake.
"The fact that they came back from a seven-month deployment and less than 72 hours after hearing about [the earthquake] they were equipped and loaded on a naval ship says tons of things about the quality of Marines we have," said Sgt. Maj. Steven L. Lunsford, battalion sergeant major, CLB-22.
