SAVANNAH, GA - The 147th Security Forces Squadron recently completed an intense multi-day training exercise centered on integrated defense, risk management, and tactical operations, facilitated by the New York National Guard here at the Air Dominance Center in Savannah, GA., May 28, 2024.
147th SFS leadership partnered with cadres from the New York and Georgia National Guard to ensure that their airmen can successfully defend their nation in the event of an attack or war, at any time, in any environment.
Technical Sgt. Bryan LaCour, flight chief for the 147th SFS, emphasized the importance of base defense training and the necessity to step outside of their normal training facilities and learn in unfamiliar areas.
“As the world stage evolves,” said LaCour. “Our airmen are going to need to understand these tactics and how to maneuver and operate in small unit tactics in austere environments, as we conduct missions throughout whatever theater we’re assigned to.”
Over the course of the training, the squadron members participated in a series of exercises designed to simulate real-world combat scenarios. These exercises included maneuvering through urban and rural environments, responding to ambushes, and executing defensive operations under fire. The focus was on developing quick decision-making skills and effective teamwork under pressure.
Technical Sgt. Christopher Molfetas, a small unit tactics instructor assigned to the 105th Base Defense Group with the New York National Guard, created the training plan for the 147th and expressed his positive experience partnering with the Texas National Guard.
“It’s a great partnership that we’re developing,” said Molfetas. “This is a fantastic group of defenders. We’ve learned a lot from them and they’ve shown us that they can execute a baseline proficiency of what we’re teaching them. They’re right at our standard of where we want them to be and they’re only going to grow from here.”
As the training concluded, members of the 147th Security Forces Squadron expressed confidence in their enhanced abilities and readiness to face future challenges. The experience at Savannah Combat Readiness Training Center not only strengthened their tactical skills but also reinforced the bonds within the unit, ensuring they operate cohesively in any operational scenario.
Staff Sgt. Devin Broden, a member assigned to the 147th Attack Wing, says that the training that he experienced has prepared him to better communicate and execute with his fellow wingmen in the event of a deployment, natural disaster, or local incident.
“It gives us an advantage,” said Broden. “If anything were to happen, we’re well-equipped and ready to go in any environment at any time.”
The 147th Security Forces Squadron is now better equipped to execute their critical security missions, thanks to the expert training and support from the New York National Guard here at Savannah CRTC.
