NAVAL AIR STATION SIGONELLA, SICILY (Oct. 31, 2024) U.S. Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station (NCTS), Sicily held a groundbreaking ceremony for the command’s new headquarters building at Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella, Oct. 28.

The new, state-of-the-art building will not only consolidate NCTS administrative, personnel and operational support functions in a new, technologically-advanced secure facility, but enhance the command’s mission of providing reliable and sustained C4I (command, control, communications, computer and intelligence) and information technology services throughout the Mediterranean area of operations.

NCTS Naples Commanding Officer and Task Group Commander Capt. Craig Gabriellini expressed enthusiasm for the new headquarters building and said it represents an investment in the mission and team, new partnerships, and legacy.

“This new facility is significant and meets the mark in both long-term advantage and operational capability, so I’m very excited for you all to be a part of that today,” said Gabriellini. “What NCTS Sicily does for the United States Navy, the mission you’re contributing to… and your coalition partners, is pretty significant; this represents an amazing opportunity.”

Alongside leadership from NCTS Naples, service members and personnel from NCTS Sicily, Public Works Department Sigonella, and NAS Sigonella attended the ceremony.

“As the hub of the Med, Sigonella is home to a host of operational units, and communication functions are key to allowing every single one of our tenant commands, deployable units and service providers to accomplish their missions,” said Capt. Aaron Shoemaker, commanding officer, NAS Sigonella. “This new station will streamline communications not only locally, but across the 6th Fleet area of responsibility, and we are proud to be a part of that.”

NCTS Sicily, strategically positioned in the central Mediterranean, executes continuous operations to ensure access and superiority within the electromagnetic and cyberspace domains for U.S, NATO, and coalition forces operating in the U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command, and U.S. Central Command areas of responsibility.

Naval Air Station Sigonella provides consolidated operational, command and control, administrative, logistical and advanced logistical support to U.S. and other NATO forces. The installation’s strategic location enables U.S., allied, and partner nation forces to deploy and respond as required, ensuring security and stability in Europe, Africa and Central Command.
