"Success in modern warfare is defined by the seamless integration of capabilities across land, air, and everything in between," said U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Ramon Contreras, Operations Command Sergeant Major for 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. "By synchronizing our maneuvering and aviation units, we ensure our forces are prepared for any challenge, on any front."
This exercise emphasized the coordination and synchronization between maneuver, artillery and aviation. Soldiers from 1-16 IN advanced through simulated enemy positions while receiving fire support from 1-5 FA, with DIVARTY ensuring smooth integration between ground forces and air assets. The event highlighted the need for precise communication and rapid decision-making under fire.
"Success on the battlefield begins with creating the pathways that enable movement and momentum," said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Johnson Tucker, a combat engineer with 1st Brigade. "By opening up breaches, we provide the critical access for maneuver forces to seize the objective and drive the mission forward."
The live fire training simulated the complexities of a combat environment, requiring Soldiers to maintain their focus and readiness. Infantry units were tested on their ability to maneuver and engage enemy positions, while artillery provided crucial fire support. Apache helicopters conducted suppression fire and close air support, demonstrating the ability to work with ground forces to neutralize threats.
"Success in this mission depends on ensuring the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) is fully supported and operational," said U.S. Army Cpt. Jacob Decker, company commander for Headquarters and Support Company, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team. "My role is to make sure the TOC has fuel, supplies, and everything necessary to stay operational, which is essential for the success of our unit."
The live fire exercise demonstrated the effectiveness of the combined arms approach, showcasing how infantry, artillery, and aviation assets can work together to achieve mission success. By preparing Soldiers for the realities of modern combat, these exercises ensure that they are ready to face any challenge on the modern battlefield.
