MOMBASA, Kenya —Members assigned to Special Operations Command Africa convened with representatives from the Kenya Ports Authority in Mombasa, Kenya, Jan. 23, 2025, to plan future engagements on fire and emergency medical services practices.

The meeting underpinned the longstanding partnership between the United States and Kenya, focusing on bolstering safety protocols and emergency response capabilities at critical infrastructure points along land and maritime environments.

“This collaboration is an opportunity to strengthen our mutual capabilities and ensure commitment to a secure, stable, and prosperous partnership,” said U.S. Army Capt. Takumi Nemec, Civil Affairs team commander. “We are committed to working together with our Kenyan counterparts in the KPA to enhance knowledge and skills in fire and EMS operations.”

Building international relationships improves readiness and allows both parties to learn new techniques and practices that improve capability.

“It has been an honor to work with the KPA Fire and EMS services,” said U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Adam Robertson, Civil Affairs team chief. “Their commitment to ensuring safety and security is commendable and we appreciate their efforts, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the KPA.”

SOCAF has engaged in several cooperative efforts with Kenya over the years, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering stability and development in the region. The Port of Mombasa plays a critical role in regional trade and economic activity, making its safety and security a priority for Kenya and its partners.
