ABIDJAN, Côte d'Ivoire- Representatives from more than 20 countries finalized details during the final planning event for Flintlock 2025 in Abidjan, Feb 24-28. The week-long collaborative event, hosted by the Forces Armées de Côte d'Ivoire, focused on cementing logistics and objectives while integrating topics like civilian harm and mitigation and rule of law.
During the event, U.S. Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire Jessica Davis Ba emphasized Flintlock’s importance to the group.
“Flintlock helps create the conditions for stability, which benefits not only our African partners but also the United States—because a more stable world is a more prosperous world,” said Davis Ba.
New this year is a transition to a two-year model. The first year focuses on academics and building an operational plan to counter a simulated, realistic threat, while the second year executes the plan in a tactical field training environment.
“Our partners asked for more deliberate training in planning combined, multinational operations,” said U.S. Army Maj. Patrick Temperato, Flintlock 2025 lead exercise planner. “This shift allows us to really focus on building proficiency in the military planning process skillset this year and use that foundational knowledge next year during tactical events.”
Exercise Flintlock 25, which will be hosted in Cote d’Ivoire starting this April, will train more than 40 nations and approximately 500 participants in countering violent extremist organizations, collaborating across borders and providing security for the population. A long-time participant and four-time host, Cote d’Ivoire provides leadership and expertise to address these goals.
“This event symbolizes the trust and cooperation between our nations in the fight against contemporary security threats,” said Brig. Gen. Tibé Bi, Ivorian Special Forces commander. “Only a collective and coordinated approach will be able to provide effective and sustainable responses.”
