The 181st Intelligence Wing conducted the first half of a large-scale training exercise that evaluated its units and Airmen in their readiness and adaptability at Hulman Field on March 1, 2025.
The exercise was a simulated deployment that strengthened the Wing and its Airmen’s readiness and capabilities in times of activation. The exercise assessed the speed and efficiency of the 181st Mission Support Group, including the 181st Logistics Readiness Squadron, 181st Force Support Squadron, 181st Medical Group and the 181st LRS’ ground transportation element. Each section holds an essential role to ensure everything from our Airmen’s individual readiness, the operational readiness and accountability of their supplies and the transportation and deployment of supplies and equipment to the operation area in order to move our troops wherever and whenever they are needed.
Airmen were processed and vetted through the 181st MDG and 181st FSS deployment requirements, reinforcing their knowledge and ability to be individually ready.
Tech. Sgt Matthew Payne, a Public Health Specialist at the 181st Medical Group, helped plan and execute the exercise. He noted that the exercise gave people a more complete understanding of the medical group’s operations and role.
“A slogan I heard a lot was ‘flex your muscle’,” stated Payne, explaining that Airmen were given the opportunity to showcase their abilities and that eyes had been opened to the amount of work that must be carried out in order to accomplish the mission.
The 181st LRS and ground transportation were responsible for ensuring all procedures and protocols for transporting supplies and equipment were followed. Master Sgt. Hunt, the transportation superintendent, said the exercise went well, and highlighted some ways to enhance their operations.
Lt. Col. Foree, the 181st Mission Support Group Deputy Commander, stated that this exercise requires complete focus in order to accomplish and meet timelines effectively.
“Ultimately, the goal of exercising is to build our muscle memory as a wing. We’re testing the outstanding training we’ve already received in a rigorous environment, which will increase our readiness and lethality within our assigned mission sets.”
Every unit is essential to maintaining our ability to deploy anytime, anywhere. The 181st Intelligence Wing is constantly training to ensure the efficiency and experience required to respond to any call for support.
