INDIANAPOLIS -- Approximately 120 Indiana National Guard soldiers with the 252nd Support Maintenance Company, based at Stout Field, returned from a 10-month deployment in the Middle East on Wednesday.

The unit's soldiers played a vital role in maintenance operations during their deployment supporting multiple locations throughout U.S. Central Command's area of operations and three campaigns - Operation Spartan Shield, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Sinai.

"We supported the entire AO, and it was a great experience," said Capt. Joshua Frees, of Carmel and the unit's commander. "It was great to lead this team, our soldiers are go-getters so that was a lot of fun."

The Hoosier Guardsmen managed more than 17,500 pieces of equipment, completed more than 7,200 work orders and completed more than 46,000 hours of repairs.

At one integral location the Hoosier soldiers increased equipment readiness from 14 percent to 58 percent, and they worked on myriad types of equipment from weapons systems to electronics to generators, armor, trucks and other wheeled vehicles.

"We did an outstanding job, everybody did an outstanding job. Our soldiers, they were all very well prepared," said 1st Sgt. David Tallent, of Avon and the company's senior enlisted leader. "Yet I am very happy to be home, and I think we all are."

With the many types of equipment to repair, the Indiana National Guard remained adaptable during the overseas missions and now will adapt to civilian life once again.
