Maintaining order in today's political world is a daunting task, and a thankless one. It's a task that Wayne P. Jackson has tackled since he arrived to the floor of the New York State Assembly in January of 1979.
Members of 1st Brigade, USAREC joined members of the New York State Assembly as Jackson was recognized as the first "Center of Influence Award" for his time in uniform and as Sergeant at Arms of the New York State Assembly.
Over the course of his time at the New York State Capitol, Jackson has served under 8 Presidents, 7 Governors and countless Assembly members. Ensuring that the rules of the floor are enforced.
The job of the Sergeant at Arms is to maintain order and security during Assembly proceedings and other events in the Chamber; and at times the debates can get "lively" and it's up to Mr. Jackson to ensure that everything goes off without a hitch.
Jackson comes with a reputation as one of the toughest, most dedicated, and beloved figures in the whole of New York politics, earning the respect of everyone he introduces to the floor of the Assembly...Republican or Democrat.
Lifelong son of the Capital Region in New York, proud Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Jackson says that his military service helps in how he handles life in the "Heart of New York politics". Jackson credits his dedication to public service and community as the driving force behind his tenure at the New York State Capitol.
New Assembly members are sworn in to service every legislative session, and though the faces and names may change in the halls of the New York State Assembly...There's always one constant. Wayne Jackson.
