    53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Brig. Gen. James Tyre, the Chief of Staff for the Florida National Guard, and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Hosford, the command sergeant major for Florida, visited Soldiers from the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team here, May 12 - 14.

Brig. Gen. Tyre and Command Sgt. Maj. Hosford bring news from Florida, the 53rd IBCT's home state, and exude their praises upon the Soldiers that they encounter from the brigade. "The depth of professionalism impresses me," said Hosford.

The duo of Florida National Guard leadership visited all the camps in Kuwait the 53rd IBCT has a footprint on to see as many soldiers as possible and receiving an update from each commander about how their units and missions are progressing. The IBCT's area of responsibility spans the entire country of Kuwait and into Iraq.

"Flexibility has been our mantra," said Lt. Col. Vaughn Brown, Det 1, 53rd Special Troops Battalion commander and camp commander for the Ali Al Salem Life Support Area.

According to Brown, the mission of running the LSA has been an interesting and challenging one. He attributes his success to the Soldiers under his command going above and beyond what was expected of them. "This is a unique place and I don't think that I have been bored one day," said Brown.

Brig. Gen. Tyre and Command Sgt. Maj. Hosford were eager to interact with the Soldiers of the IBCT, often cutting the commander's briefings short in-order to spend more time listening to the Soldiers. "It's the E5's and E6's that make the missions happen, it's that young E4 turning a wrench, not the sergeants major and officers," said Hosford.
