FORWARD OPERATING BASE LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – The 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Fort Campbell, Ky., conducted a Combat Patch Ceremony for its Headquarters and Headquarters Company at Forward Operating Base Leatherneck in southwestern Afghanistan’s Helmand province on Friday, Dec. 17.
The shoulder sleeve insignia for former wartime service or more commonly known as the combat patch is awarded to soldiers who participate in or support combat operations against hostile forces.
Capt. Hal Howerton the Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander was the Commander of Troops while Lt. Col. Daniel Rickleff, the 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Commander, presided over the ceremony.
When speaking at the ceremony Howerton stated, “The combat patch is more than the insignia of the unit you were assigned to when you deployed. It signifies the sacrifices made in combat for our country, the Army, the unit and the soldiers to your left and right. This patch represents the proud heritage of the 129th (Combat Sustainment Support Battalion), the 101st (Sustainment Brigade) and the 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault. It links us to the brave soldiers that went before us defending freedom on their Rendezvous with Destiny. Wear it with pride as we continue that tradition by providing unparalleled support throughout southern Afghanistan.”
The 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion provides logistical support to all forces in Regional Command-Southwest.
