PINEVILLE, La. – Louisiana National Guardsman Kenneth Donnelly was promoted to colonel on March 24 at Camp Beauregard in Pineville.
Donnelly, an Alexandria resident who calls New Orleans home, has served as a commissioned officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard since 1992.
He currently serves as the deputy brigade commander of the 225th Engineer Brigade and as the commander of the upcoming New Horizons – Task Force Bon Voizen humanitarian mission to Haiti, which commences later this spring.
The importance of Donnelly’s promotion and his selection as Task Force Bon Voizen commander months ago was noted by Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau, the adjutant general of the LANG, who said that Donnelly would be the highest ranking military officer in Haiti during the time of the task force mission.
“When you want someone to cover down on a tough job, you look around you and pick a dynamic leader, an outstanding soldier,” said Landreneau. “That’s what we did when the time came to pick a commander for the next task force in Haiti.”
Donnelly expressed gratitude to Landreneau for his selection and to all the members of the Guard for their support throughout his career; however, singled out his wife, Catarina, also an officer in the LANG, for special recognition.
“I’m on the go a lot,” Donnelly said. “She’s the one that really maintains the home front and I really do appreciate her for that.”
Among his many awards and decorations are a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge awarded for service during his deployment to Iraq in 2004-2005, as well as the Meritorious Service Medal, Louisiana Cross of Merit and Louisiana War Cross.
