CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – A ceremony was held to commemorate the Transfer of Authority from the 651st Regional Support Group to the 642nd Regional Support Group here Aug. 11.

The ceremony offered a chance for the 1st Sustainment Command (Theater) leadership to give praise for a job well done.

“It’s been my honor to have served alongside the 651st these many months,” said Brig. Gen. David Clarkson, deputy commanding general (support), 1st TSC. “You’ve had a great success in a very difficult assignment. Behind the scenes, you’ve assured the Warfighter’s success.

After dedicating nearly a year to Third Army’s area of operation, soldiers from the 651st should leave theater with heads held high.

“You’ve earned the right to be very proud of your individual, and collective, service,” Clarkson said. “I’m simply astounded by your accomplishments and the seamless transition you’ve all conducted.”

After casing the group’s colors, the 651st commander thanked the crowd and gave the unit’s motto.

“It hasn’t always been pretty, but it’s been functional and we got the job done,” said Col. Richard Lamb, 651st RSG commander. “Hold the mountain, defend the peak.”

With the Transfer of Authority complete, the soldiers in the incoming unit were ready for the challenge of supporting Third Army’s area of operation.

“Today’s ceremony marks the beginning of our journey into history as we support Operation New Dawn,” said Col. Edith Greene, commander, 642nd RSG and Pocatello, Idaho, native. “I have no doubt the 642nd is ready for this mission and will execute it successfully.”

For optimal mission success, soldiers within 651st bonded together and is ready to tackle the deployment here as a team, Greene said.

“We’ve come together as one team, one unit, for one Army,” Greene commented. “I am proud to serve as your commander as we take responsibility for deployment and redeployment operations in the U.S. Army Central Command AOR.”

Greene and her crew may be new to the scene, but 1st TSC leadership is optimistic the 642nd RSG will find nothing but great success.

“I’m positive you’ll continue the fine tradition of service excellence as we undertake one of the largest movements of forces and equipment, over the shortest period of time, in the Army’s long history,” said Clarkson.

The TOA was an excellent opportunity to thank the outgoing and encourage the incoming, but sustaining Third Army operations and shaping the future of Third Army by moving thousands of pieces of equipment and redeploying Soldiers will be an ongoing task. No matter the time of day, 642nd stands ready tonight.

“Dedicated to the fight, responsive day and night,” Greene said.
