CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq – A new construction project is underway on Contingency Operating Base Adder this month.

Engineers from the 389th Engineer Company from Middletown, Iowa, are currently constructing a new division operations center for the 25th Infantry Division on COB Adder.

The 389th engineer company is an Army Reserve unit that provides construction support to other units stationed on COB Adder.

Construction of the new DOC began in late August with the demolition of the existing operations center to clear the workspace for the new construction plan, said Sgt. Christopher Morian, construction supervisor, 389th Eng. Co., and a native of Stockport, Iowa. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of September, he added.

The construction consists of creating more than 50 workstations that will be built on multiple layered six inch and eight inch platforms for the 25th Inf. Div., said Morian.

The workstations will be set up in a stadium-style construction to maximize the use of the space and provide optimal visual capabilities for soldiers using the work area, said Morian.

In addition to constructing the workstation bases, the project also includes running wires for communications, installing locks on doors and setting up steel-studded walls to separate work areas, said Morian.

The 389th soldiers have been working the night shift to avoid the heavy foot-traffic of soldiers coming and going throughout the daytime hours, said Morian. The night hours allows them to work more efficiently, he added.

So far, the construction has only seen a minor set back in terms of scheduling, but is progressing well, said Morian. The project is expected to be up and running and ready for use as scheduled.
