VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Los Alamitos. Calif. native and Los Alamitos High School class of 2005 graduate, Alex D. Gallegos was promoted to the rank of Marine Corps sergeant during a ceremony with fellow Marines aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, Nov. 1.
Gallegos entered active military service in November 2005, and is currently serving as an infantry skills instructor at Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Virginia Beach, Va.
Prior to checking into MCSCG, Gallegos served as a mortarman with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, Calif., from May 2006 until February 2010.
During his time with 2/1, he deployed twice. Once aboard the USS Tortuga and USS Essex in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and the other was to Al-Asad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Gallegos lives in the Hampton Roads area along with his wife Brittni and their daughter Natalee, who just turned a year old in September.
His parents Ed and Patricia Gallegos still reside in Los Alamitos, California. Additionally, his grandparents Alex and Cecilia Zamarripa also reside in Los Alamitos, California, and are one of the original residents of this city, which was incorporated in 1960.
Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that coordinates, manages, executes, and evaluates United States Marine Corps Security Cooperation programs and activities, to include assessment, planning, related education and training, and advisor support to ensure unity of effort in building Partner Nation Security Forces capacity and capability in order to facilitate USMC and regional Marine Forces component support to combatant commanders security cooperation objectives.
