      German Mountain Infantry Battalion 233 from Bad Reichenhall are the only unit in Germany still using pack animals.

      For the preparation of the LIVEX of Trident Juncture, the mortar platoon of the German Mountain Infantry Battalion 233 learns the disposal of the 120mm mortars with mules. Using reduced combat gear, the unit trains to build the bond between animal and person.

      Staff Sergeant Weiß is squad leader of a mortar squad and coach the transport and deployment of his mortar by mules . Due to the enormous weight of this mortar, 3 mules are necessary.

      The animals are lead by qualified staff and secured by the mortar squad.

      Coast Guard search and rescue crews from Station Gloucester, Air Station Cape Cod and the Coast Guard Cutter Ocracoke rescued nine crewmembers from the Canadian tall ship Liana's Ransom 58 miles east of Gloucester, Monday.
      Watchstanders at the Sector Boston Command Center received notification at 12:35 a.m. that the vessel's engines were disabled and its sails were wrapped around the mast.
      As the weather deteriorated, and seas reached nearly 10 feet, Sector Boston launched two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews from Station Gloucester to tow the vessel back to Gloucester.       When a cook aboard USS Mississippi set foot on the shores of Naval Shipyard Pensacola in 1914, he had no idea that the photographs he took on his off-duty time would lay the groundwork for 100 years of Navy photography.

      Although the photographer rating had yet to exist in the Navy, Walter Leroy Richardson was doing the job, documenting aerial and ship maneuvers, crew movement and daily operations. Recognizing the value and necessity of documenting and creating a visual history of its activities, the Navy asked him to do it officially.
