    Staff Sgt. Scar joined the Army in 2009 at the age of 40 to become a 46Q, photojournalist. His first assignment was with the 7th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment (7th MPAD) where he spent five years, including one year deployed to Regional Command-East, Afghanistan. Upon completion of his active duty contract, Scar joined the Army Reserve and served in the 108th Training Command in Charlotte, N.C. and the 335th Signal Command in Atlanta, GA. As a civilian he continues to create content for U.S. Army Cadet Command. Scar has created and marketed more than 2,500 products telling the Army story to the American public. His content has been picked up by dozens of media outlets all over the world including TIME, 60 Minutes, NPR, the Washington Post, the Pulitzer Center, Atlantic magazine, CNN, Fox News, PBS, MAXIM, Stars and Stripes, Mother Jones, the San Diego Union Tribune, the Chicago Tribune, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the Department of Defense. Scar is the winner of 22 Keith L. Ware, Thomas Jefferson and Brumfield awards. He was named the 2013 Paul D. Savanuck Military Journalist of the Year and the 2011 Thomas Jefferson Outstanding New Writer in the U.S. military.
