The Illinois APEX Accelerator team is co-hosting a "Doing Business with the Department of the Navy" Small Business Workshop in Chicago on August 8, featuring keynote speaker Ms. Stacey Cooper. The workshop will include sessions on procurement processes and success stories. Additionally, the Small Business Administration (SBA) is holding tribal consultations to discuss updates on the HUBZone program and Executive Order 14112, aimed at improving funding accessibility for Tribal Nations. In legislative news, a new House bill proposes to establish a contract preference program for veteran-owned small businesses within the Department of Defense. On August 27, Navy Week Syracuse will feature a similar workshop with keynote speaker Ms. Chiretta Boclair, while the 2024 Navy Gold Coast Expo is scheduled for August 18-21 in San Diego, focusing on procurement opportunities for small businesses. Matchmaking sessions for small businesses have also been expanded, with profiles needing updates by July 31. The ATS Team and MARCORSYSCOM will host an Industry Day on July 30-31 in Stafford, VA, centered on CBM+ technologies. In addition, NUWC Division Keyport will hold a virtual Industry Engagement on July 30, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is set to host a "How to Do Business with DHS" webinar on July 31. NAVSEA will conduct an Industry Day on August 5 in Washington, D.C., discussing SLUAS requirements. Other notable upcoming events include a hybrid industry day by Marine Corps Systems Command and HQMC I&L Contracts on August 22, an Industry Day by NAVSEA’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving on September 18, and the 2024 National HUBZone Conference focusing on OEM and reseller partnerships. The Department of Defense (DoD) is enhancing the industrial base's health and resilience through the National Defense Industrial Strategy (NDIS). Following a significant funding increase for the Defense Production Act, Navy Week Chicago will feature a "Doing Business with the DON" Small Business Workshop with keynote speaker Ms. Stacey Cooper, Deputy of Small Business Programs at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center. Registration is open for the 2024 Navy Gold Coast Expo from August 18-21 in San Diego, offering small businesses a chance to engage with government and industry leaders. The 2024 Mentor-Protégé Program Summit will be held from July 29 to August 1 in Detroit, MI, while the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport is hosting a virtual Industry Engagement on July 30 to discuss procurement opportunities. The Naval Sea Systems Command will also hold an Industry Day on August 5 for Submarine Launched Unmanned Aerial System (SLUAS) requirements. The 2024 Fleet Maintenance & Modernization Symposium is scheduled for September 16-19 in Virginia Beach, VA. The DON OSBP Office Hours Series offers exclusive insights from DCAA before the 2024 DON Gold Coast Event. On July 16, Katelyn Rigle, Operations Audit Liaison and Small Business Coordinator at DCAA, will address questions via Zoom. This event provides a valuable opportunity to gain insights and prepare for success at the Gold Coast Expo. Bipartisan legislation to help small businesses access federal contracts has passed the House and is heading to the Senate. If signed into law, the SBA will consider the number of new small businesses entering the federal contracting market for a federal agency’s performance goals. The SBA has extended the moratorium on the 8(a) Business Development Program’s Bona Fide Place of Business requirement through September 30, 2025. This extension addresses workforce shortages and the trend toward remote work. Registration is open for the Mentor-Protégé Program Summit 2024, from July 29 to August 1 in Detroit, MI. Hosted by the DoD Office of Small Business Programs, this summit offers learning and networking opportunities to build partnerships and strengthen the defense industrial base. The 2024 Navy Gold Coast Expo will be held August 18-21 at the San Diego Convention Center.
