This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere.” Fire Prevention Week is a nationwide event that is held annually during the week of Oct. 9. It is a week meant to educate and remind people of the importance of preventing fires.

    Narration:
During Fire Prevention Week, firefighters and inspectors from the Directorate of Emergency Services at U.S. Army Garrison Japan visited Camp Zama's Child Development Center and Arnn Elementary School, teaching children fire safety tips such as the “stop, drop and roll” technique. Meanwhile, several facilities on Camp Zama and Sagami General Depot also conducted evacuation and fire extinguisher drills.

Interview: Paula Adams, 5th Grader, Arnn Elementary School

Interview: Paul Gayhart, Director, Mission Training Complex, G3, U.S. Army Japan

    Narration:
Fire Prevention Week offers a way to increase the fire safety awareness of every community member and to ensure the community understands how to stay calm in the event of a real fire emergency.

Interview: Shinji Kajita, Assistant Chief for Fire Prevention, Fire and Emergency Services, DES, USAG Japan
It is important to stay vigilant about fire prevention throughout the year. However, particularly during Fire Prevention Week, we want every community member to take some time and think about what they can do to prevent fires in order to live in a safe environment.
