    U.S. Army Garrison - Japan

    Narration:
Twenty-seven pilots and maintainers from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s 106th Aviation Squadron visited the U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan on Camp Zama to learn about its aviation systems.

Interview: CPT Jeremy Madany, Assistant Operations Officer, U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan

    Narration:
After their arrival, the pilots and maintainers received a mission briefing from Captain Jeremy Madany and were introduced to the capabilities of the U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan, as well as the role of Camp Zama’s Kastner Airfield. They also toured the aviation hangar and saw firsthand how the U.S. Soldiers conduct operations there.

Interview: MAJ Mutsuhiro Okawachi, Commander, 106th Aviation Squadron, JGSDF
I think it is very important that the relationship between the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the U.S. military remains very strong under the U.S.-Japan security treaty. We still need to work on a few things in order to conduct training more frequently at the unit level, so I think today’s opportunity was very significant for our aviation unit in working toward that goal.

Interview: PFC Tamaki Mitsuhashi, Maintenance Technician, 106th Aviation Squadron, JGSDF
Today was my first time coming to a U.S. military installation and actually meeting U.S. Soldiers. I didn’t have any idea what a U.S. installation would be like, or about the Soldiers who work there, but after receiving a briefing from U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan about their mission in Japan, I was able to learn about their mission and the importance of promoting friendship and cooperation between our two forces.

    Narration:
USAABJ Commander Lt. Col. John Franz said events like this not only enhance the interoperability between the two forces’ aviation units, but they also foster ties between the U.S. Army in Japan and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force.

Interview: LTC John Franz, Commander, U.S. Army Aviation Battalion Japan
