Narration:
Nearly 100 fifth- and sixth-grade students from Kurihara Elementary School in Zama City visited Arnn Elementary School for a bilateral cultural exchange where they got a glimpse of what student life is like at an American school.
Interview: Keiko Naoi, Principal, Kurihara Elementary School
Our students began learning English two years ago, but they do not have many opportunities to put those skills to use. But with events like today’s, being in an English-speaking environment and interacting with American students gives our students the chance to hone those skills. More importantly, the students were able to make friends from a different country. So this was a great event.
Narration:
After the Japanese students’ arrival, the students from Arnn welcomed them with musical and dance performances. The students were then split into eight groups and spent time in different parts of the school doing activities. Some of the students made name tags in both English and Japanese; some played games and watched movies together; and some even made Valentine’s Day cards for their family.
Interview: Mamiko Ogawa, 5th grade, Kurihara Elementary School
The teachers and students here were very kind when they talked with me, so today was a lot of fun.
Interview: Risa Otake, 5th grade, Kurihara Elementary School
I don’t understand much English currently, but after today I feel like I want to study English more. Hopefully, I’ll be able to communicate with them better in the future and become friends.
