Indiana HART departs for multi-agency training event in South Carolina
SOUTH BEND, Indiana – The Indiana Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team is scheduled to attend a training event hosted by South Carolina, Aug. 11-18 and includes North Carolina and Texas National Guard teams, and FEMA.
The Indiana HART is comprised of Indiana Army National Guard aviation crews from the 38th Combat Aviation Brigade, 38th Infantry Division and first responders from the South Bend Fire Department.
The Indiana HART will be classified as a Type 1 asset by FEMA once the exercise in South Carolina is complete and be the first team in the Midwest designated as such. This classification certifies the HART to perform search and rescue missions, day or night, in flood or swift water. The HART recently conducted hoist training in northern Indiana to prepare for this event.
