Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ryan Vanderlugt was a Sgt. First Class Infantryman until he was wounded in action in Afghanistan. The experience of being medically evacuated out of the combat zone not only saved his life, but inspired him to continue serving now as a pilot with the Charlie MEDEVAC Company, 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion. Now as an Indiana National Guardsman and earning his title as Pilot in Command, he hopes that he can be there for the service members wounded in action just like he was taken care of so many years before.
