The U.S. Air Force Strings ensemble performed their final concert for the year in the lobby of the America building located in building 19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s (WRNMMC), Dec. 21.
In partnership with WRNMMC’s Arts in Health Program, the U.S. Air Force Strings performs a monthly concert playing in different areas throughout the hospital.
“This is one of our most rewarding types of performances, being able to interact with patients and retirees,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Henry Tyzler, U.S. Air Force Band Strings violinist. “Music just sort of touches people deeply in a way that other forms of media can’t.”
As a component of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence's (NICoE) commitment to arts-based programming, WRNMMC’s Arts in Health Program’s mission is to provide opportunities to engage with the arts to support the health and well-being of:
• Patients with status of active duty, veteran, and/or retirees
• Military families and dependents
• Military caregivers and non-medical attendants
• Staff
• Students and interns
• Visitors
• Volunteers
The Air Force Strings is the official string ensemble of the United States Air Force, stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C.
