Marines, sailors and members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force shake hands during a social engagement hosted by the JGSDF’s 41st Infantry Regiment at Camp Beppu, Japan, Aug. 19. Forest Light is a semiannual, bilateral training exercise with the JGSDF designed to enhance military partnership, strengthen regional security agreements, and improve individual and unit-level skills in a bilateral environment. The Marines and sailors are with Combat Assault Battalion and 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment. Both are with 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. 2nd Bn., 3rd Marines is deployed to Okinawa under the unit deployment program.
