Sara Centeno (right), robotics staff researcher in Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division’s (NSWC PHD) Office of Technology, keeps an eye on a student from De Anza Academy of Technology & the Arts in Ventura as she flies a quadcopter drone that the students themselves assembled during a STEM-inspired event hosted by Matter Labs, March 21 at Fathomwerx Lab. Centeno was one of a handful of volunteers from the command who participated in the event at the lab, located at the Port of Hueneme. NSWC PHD, one of the tenant commands at Naval Base Ventura County in Port Hueneme, California, provided the drones as well as speakers for the keynote panel featuring civilian women representing several engineering careers in the Navy.
