A soldier from the 416th Civil Affairs Battalion exits the airplane during an airborne operation for a safe decent to the California desert. Civil affairs soldiers, called “Peacemakers,” support military operations and enable missions by advising a commander on civil and civilian aspects of the battlefield. Peacemakers are responsible for five core tasks: civil information management, foreign humanitarian assistance, nation assistance, population resource control and support to civil administration.
