Dr. Lam Hoi Phuong, a plastic surgeon with Operation Smile Vietnam, performs an operation to fix a cleft palate aboard the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy. This is the first time that Operation Smile Vietnam has partnered with the U.S. Navy and performed surgeries aboard a U.S. Navy vessel. Mercy serves as an enabling platform through which multi-national military, medical teams and non-governmental organizations can coordinate humanitarian efforts.
