Dr. Lam Hoi Phuong, a plastic surgeon with Operation Smile Vietnam, performs an operation to fix a cleft palate aboard the the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy. This is the first time that Operation Smile Vietnam has partnered with the U.S. Navy and performed surgeries aboard a U.S. Navy vessel. Mercy serves as an enabling platform through which multi-national military, medical teams and non-governmental organizations can coordinate humanitarian efforts.
