U.S. Marine Master Sgt. Jenniffer R. Scott, intelligence watch chief, III Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), and native of Marrero, La., discusses women in military service with Republic of Korea Marine Maj. Yun-Jeon Kim, logistics officer, aboard the USS Blue Ridge Aug. 29, during exercise Ulchi Freedom Guardian 2013. Kim is the first female officer to join the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, joining in July 2001. Scott enlisted in the Marine Corps in Aug. 1998. Scott and Kim are participating in UFG, which is carried out in the spirit of the Republic of Korea and U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty signed on Oct. 1, 1953, and further contributes to training and enabling of the Republic of Korea military to take the lead for its combined defense of the republic in 2015.
