Cadet Heidi Beemer is collecting geological data for a Martian shelter project conducted at the Mars Desert Research Station in San Rafael Swell, Utah, February 2011. Heidi is analyzing the rock structure by calculating the orientation and spacing of discontinuities in rock formations to determine the rock mass rating for a future Martian tunnel that would shelter residents from solar radiation.
