U.S. Army Sgt. John Keller, a native of Moorhead, Minn., who serves as a mortarman, balances his M224 60mm mortar on Forward Operating Base Torkham, Sept. 27, 2013, as Spc. Jacob Connolly, a native of Berlin, N.H., who serves as a fire support specialist mans the radio and Staff Sgt. Cory Williams, a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., who serves as a fire support non-commissioned officer, scans the impact area in preparation of firing their M224 60mm mortar. All three soldiers serve with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. The soldiers were conducting live fire training to ensure that their skills remain sharp. Their target was a deserted mountainside outside their base.
