U.S. Marine Cpl. Stephen J. Waszak III begins a friction fire Oct. 10 as part of a jungle survival course at Naval Station Leovigildo Gantioqui, San Antonio, Zambales, Republic of the Philippine, during Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. Bilateral training during PHIBLEX 14 ensures Philippine and U.S. forces are capable of integrating effectively to conduct humanitarian assistance and regional security missions. Waszak is a machine gunner with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, which is currently assigned to 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force under the U.S. Marine Corp’s unit deployment program.
