Lt. Gen. Koichiro Bansho prepares to embark on an MV-22B Osprey and return to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa Nov. 12 aboard the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ship Ise. This marks the first time the Osprey landed aboard a JMSDF ship in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the first time that Bansho has flown on an Osprey. Bansho is the commanding general of the Western Army, Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces. The Osprey is with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, currently assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
