Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Pfc. Jeffrey Peterson, Platoon 3089, Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, enjoys the sight of a Warrior's Breakfast Nov. 16, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. This was his first meal after earning the title Marine and finishing the 54-hour culminating event of training, the Crucible, where he was forced to ration the food he had. Peterson, 21, from Jacksonville, N.C., is scheduled to graduate Nov. 22, 2013. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
