Ted Olson served on OMLT-1 from October 2008 to June 2009. Master Sgt. Timothy Magoon served on OMLT-3 from March 2010 to December 2010. OMLTs are North Atlantic Treaty Organization-International Security Assistance Force units that provide training and mentoring to the Afghan National Army. They also serve as a liaison
between ANA and ISAF forces, coordinating the planning of operations and ensuring that the ANA units receive support, including close air support, casualty evacuation and medical evacuation.
OMLTs are composed of 13-30 personnel, depending on the type of
ANA unit it is partnered with, from one or several countries. Each OMLT is deployed with an Afghan unit for a minimum period of six months.
