A Hutia, commonly referred to as a 'banana rat' by Joint Task Force Guantanamo troopers, forages for food on the side of the road at Camp America, Aug. 5, 2008. Through a partnership with the Toledo Zoo, scientists here are working to understand the habit and habitat of the creatures to determine what we can do to protect them from further extinction. JTF Guantanamo conducts safe and humane care and custody of detained enemy combatants. The JTF conducts interrogation operations to collect strategic intelligence in support of the Global War on Terror and supports law enforcement and war crimes investigations. JTF Guantanamo is committed to the safety and security of American service members and civilians working inside its detention facilities.
