Hutia, commonly referred to as 'banana rats' by Naval Station Guantanamo Bay troopers, are nocturnal mammals whose population is in danger of becoming extinct. Through a partnership with the Toledo Zoo, scientists are working to understand the habit and habitat of the creatures through radio collar tracking, to determine what we can do to protect them from further extinction.
