Hoar, the guest of honor for the ceremony, and a native of Boston, commanded the regiment in 1979 through 1981. His personal decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with combat “V” and gold star, and the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star.
