Sergeant Leonard Sloan III, supply administration chief with 1st Marine Regiment, and a native of Kansas City, Mo., gathered aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., during a farewell for the regiment Feb. 10, 2014. The regiment has participated in every major conflict since World War II and will be the last regimental combat team to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Their mission as Task Force Belleau Wood is the security of Camp Bastion and Leatherneck in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
