U.S. Marines shield themselves from the blast of a breaching charge explosion Feb. 17 at Ban Chan Krem, Kingdom of Thailand during Exercise Cobra Gold. The day’s training was intended to demonstrate how explosive ordinance disposal units prepare, construct and detonate some of their breaching charges and explain their underlying fundamentals. The Marines are with Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force and 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, which is currently assigned to 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III MEF, as part of the Marine Corps’ unit deployment program.
