James Fairman, assigned to the 219th Expeditionary Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers, at a forward-deployed location in Southwest Asia Jan. 15, 2003. Fairman, who was deployed from Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., underwent the surgery to relieve pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome.
