Seabees walk with a birthday cake March 8 at the Crow’s Nest on Camp Shields during the Seabee and Civil Engineer Corps’ anniversary celebration. Naval tradition dictates the oldest sailor in attendance to pass on a piece of cake to the youngest, symbolizing the passing of youth and vitality. This year marks the 72nd Seabee and 147th CEC anniversary. The Seabees are with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1, which is based out of Gulfport, Miss. and has 13 global details deployed throughout the U.S. and Asia-Pacific area of operations.
