Capt. Jonathan Proctor is presented the Draper Armor Leadership Award, March 27, by Maj. Gen. John M. Murray, 3rd Infantry Division commanding general. Proctor, former commander of Troop B and now-commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, was recognized after the Soldiers of Troop B "Bonecrushers" earned the coveted Draper Armor Leadership Award, for fiscal year 2013. "Each division picks the best troop to earn the Draper Award, and you all are it," Murray said. "Since the 3rd Infantry Division is the best division in the United States Army, you are the best troop in the Army." The Draper Armor Leadership Award was established in 1924 by Lt. Col. Wickliffe P. Draper as a means to competitively test the leadership of small Cavalry units. The test was oriented to the platoon level of Horse Cavalry. The first Cavalry Leadership Test for small units was held at Fort Riley, Kan., the then-home of the Cavalry School. Today, the Draper Armor Leadership Award is given annually to promote, sustain, and recognize excellence in leadership in Armor and Cavalry units.
