Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. David Vozka recalls the violent rolling motion of the parking lot adjacent to the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division’s headquarters building March 27, 2014 at the exact time of day, 50 years after the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964 hit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. At the time of the quake, 4-25’s headquarters building served as the Fort Richardson’s Officers’ Club. Vozka was a first lieutenant serving as the executive officer for Company C (Airborne), 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade and was shooting pool when the quake struck.
