Sergeant Xin Huynh, right, squad leader, Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant by his wife Vanessa during a meritorious promotion ceremony aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., April 2, 2014. Huynh, a native of Stockton, Calif., was selected out of approximately 20,000 Marines for the promotion. He achieved the rank by going above and beyond his peers in job performance, education and physical fitness. He also spends many of his weekends volunteering to help the homeless, as well as being a mentor for young adults who are searching for a career path. Huynh said he will continue to better himself as a Marine and give 100 percent to the job until he retires.
