Staff Sgt. Brittany Lanahan mixes alginate to take an impression of a patient's mouth at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Feb. 19, 2014. The alginate starts out as a powder and is then mixed with water, making a thick, pasty material. An alginate impression is used to make a replica of a patient’s teeth.
