U.S. Army Sgt. Chris Kabella, a farrier for the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment who hails from Victoria, Texas, explains how he attaches a shoe to a horse's foot to a group of children from Mountain View Elementary School, May 1, 2014. The HCD is a ceremonial and recruitment unit dedicated to preserving the 1st Cavalry Division's equestrian heritage. The unit's headquarters next to the Fort Hood main gate is open 24 hours a day, and the HCD gives weekly performances demonstrating traditional mounted drills and ceremonies, including marksmanship and sabre skills.
