Australian Army Capt. Kendall Crocker hosts a seminar on veterinary medicine during a Balikatan 2014 Medical Symposium in Legazpi City, Albay Province, Philippines. “Balikatan gives us the opportunity to give the people knowledge rather than just giving them supplies,” said Crocker. Speakers at the symposium spoke on topics such as common sicknesses in the region to raise the level of awareness, understanding, and methods for mitigation and prevention of the new and emerging threats. The symposium was part of Exercise Balikatan, an annual bilateral training exercise and humanitarian assistance engagement between members of the Philippine and U.S. armed forces that focuses on strenghtening the bond between the long standing allies.
